One of my favorite hobbies (maybe obsession is a better word!) is genealogy, and I've learned quite a bit since I started really working on it
back in 2001. I've found ancestors back to my 7th great-grandparents on either side, dating back to the early 1700's.
Of course, there are some ancestral lines that I haven't got that far back yet, but I will someday! Mostly those are on my
paternal grandmother's line, which come from the island of Sardinia, where I am limited to the amount of data at my disposal
here locally.
Family History Center (FHC)
I've done most of my research with the help of the records available from the Mormon church. They have what
they call Family History Centers, where anyone can go and research their ancestors. The people there are really great,
and I became an assistant librarian there in 2004. We all work there on a volunteer basis, and I think it's pretty neat that
someone like myself who's only been at this a relatively short time can go there to try and help others.
Most of the other librarians there have been at this for at least 20 years or more.
